AACN Advanced Critical Care is seeking manuscripts on topics of interest to experienced nurse clinicians, clinical educators, and/or advanced practice nurses who care for critical or acute care patients. Submissions will be peer-reviewed.

Feature articles should emphasize recent research findings, evidence-based practice (EBP) information, and innovative approaches (when appropriate) for all ages of critically and acutely ill populations. We are interested in receiving papers from a range of critical care topics, including (but not limited to):

  • Advanced clinical care (eg, disease management and prevention, assessment and monitoring, application of critical care technologies, hemodynamic monitoring, advanced ventilation modes)

  • Pharmacology

  • Transitions of care including between levels of care, palliative, and end-of-life care

  • Prevention and management of complications in the critically ill (eg, deep vein thrombosis, pneumonia, gastrointestinal dysfunction, hospital-acquired infections, delirium)

  • Emerging infectious disease and inflammatory conditions including cellular level mechanisms and treatment

  • Healthy work environment topics (eg, maximizing interdisciplinary collaboration, effective decision making, conflict resolution and negotiation, mentoring, shared governance)

  • Technology use in patient care (eg, decision-making framework for technology, influencing technology decisions in the workplace, using research to guide technology decisions, virtual ICU)

  • Innovative and new approaches to the care of critical and acute care patients and to the education of critical care nurses in the clinical setting

  • Systems- or role-related topics of interest to advanced practice nurses and/or experienced clinicians working in critical care or acute care areas

  • Promoting EBP in critical care and acute care nursing and nursing–system structures (eg, facilitating an EBP-focused clinical environment, examples of different approaches to using EBP)

Please note that although we do accept review articles, we only consider those that have sufficient evidence that the author uses to support recommendations with direct applicability to practice.

Author guidelines are available and manuscripts can be submitted online at: www.editorialmanager.com/nci.
