Effective strategies to provide education to patients and their family caregivers in the intensive care unit (ICU) often consist of multiple components and convey information in ways that promote comprehension of the educational content. For patients and families in the ICU, opportunities for critical care nurses and other health care providers to deliver needed patient and family education are often missed. One solution, television-based education, has the potential to effectively provide patients and their family members with educational content that accommodates those with basic or below basic levels of health literacy.
