Although renal transplantation has become a commonly accepted treatment for ESRD, it is anything but routine for the patient and family. Although JB's was a real case, his course represents the ideal. Seldom is a case this uneventful and benign. Follow-up care is complicated, critical and individual, and nursing plays a crucial role at each step of the transplant process.
