Just a comment regarding the article “Delirium During Emergence From Anesthesia: A Case Study” (February 2003:66–69). A high oxygen saturation does not measure true ventilation of the patient, nor does it guarantee that hypercapnia is not present. Carbon dioxide monitoring should be the gold standard. This is a common misconception in many critical care units, and one that needs to be pointed out.
