When the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses (AACN) released landmark standards for healthy work environments in January 2005,11 Clarian Health Partners was on hand to represent what healthy hospital environments can look like when the entire team engages in identifying problems and developing solutions.

The standards were released at a Washington, DC news briefing also attended by representatives of the consulting firm VitalSmarts, which reported on its collaborative national study of the state of communication and collaboration in American hospitals,22 and the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations, which validated the need for the new standards and congratulated AACN on its leadership.
