Suppose you are eating dinner at your favorite restaurant with your spouse. Suddenly there’s a commotion on the other side of the room and you hear someone calling for a physician. Automatically, you respond, because as a cardiac nurse you are well-versed on emergency responses. You find an individual with all the obvious symptoms of a cardiac arrest and you immediately go into action. However, this individual fails to respond and upon arrival of the paramedics is deceased.

The family files a lawsuit for negligence and names many parties, including you, the nurse who responded in the restaurant. This is an appalling situation, because all you were doing was being a Good Samaritan and responding to someone who needed help. Unfortunately, this scenario does occur. Thankfully, not often.
