After I read the clinical article by Beth Augustyn on ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP) in the August issue of
Critical Care Nurse (2007:32–39)
I felt a sense of assurance and pride because our unit has been a part of the VAP prevention campaign in our hospital. Our unit has reached its second year as of May 2007 in the prevention of VAP and we are still going strong.
We are maintaining the evidence-based standards in our protocol, educating and updating the nurses on newer evidence-based studies, and implementing the protocol by focusing on the risk factors and preventive measures with the residents by our medical director and our collaboration with the rest of interdisciplinary teams. Yes, indeed VAP free for 2 years.
