Growing up, I wanted to be a doctor, but somewhere along the way I talked myself out of that goal and enrolled in college as a business major. After only a semester of economics courses, I transferred to a more personally rewarding career path, nursing, which is what I think I truly wanted to do as I was growing up.
I am inspired daily by the positive attitudes around me. So many patients are able to look at the positive side of the situation. After open heart surgery, the last thing most patients want to do is to get out of bed and put strain on those sore chest muscles and sternal incision, but many patients take a deep breath and get out of bed with minimal complaints. They are often an inspiration to me, as well as the rest of the nursing staff.
