I previously worked as an environmental geologist for about 13 years. During this time I volunteered for the local ski patrol and I realized that I had a strong aptitude for emergency medicine. I gravitated toward nursing and working as a flight RN because of the responsibility placed on the flight crew and the use of expansive protocols, and to be able to practice independently while the patient is in my care.

My actions can have a big impact on my patients, whether in the emergency department or the intensive care unit (ICU) or while delivering emergent care in the field. I enjoy the competence, knowledge, and experience needed to deliver emergent trauma and ICU-level care in a helicopter. This is especially true at trauma scenes, where we must be able to manage the situation or the patient may succumb to his/her injuries....
