Interprofessional collaboration is essential to patient safety. Without this collaboration, communication is jeopardized and safety is at risk. This book helps health care professionals develop and/or improve interprofessional teams and collaboration.
The Interprofessional Health Care Team is divided into 3 sections: team and group development, relationship-centered leadership, and building and sustaining collaborative interprofessional teams. Regardless of whether the team is called an interdisciplinary team, interprofessional team, or relationship-centered team, the core competency required for each member of the team is to be a leader who recognizes the value and power of his/her expertise and exhibits accountability to contribute to the delivery of safe, effective, and quality care to patients and families.
