Evidence-based nursing evaluates evidence from research and uses it to guide patient care. Nurses must be comfortable in reading and evaluating research and determining if there is potential to translate research into practice (TRIP). An intensive care unit (ICU) journal club was started to familiarize nurses with different research methods and to provide a method for appraising the work. The ultimate goal was to incorporate research into a positive clinical practice change.

The objective of a journal club is to critically appraise a published article and to make conclusions on its validity and relevance for applying to clinical practice.
