This 6th edition of Critical Care Secrets continues to answer key questions in critical care by using a question and answer format. The book is divided into 16 sections, starting with generic content about overall patient care in the general intensive care unit. This generic section covers topics such as nutrition, pain management, and ethics as well as quality assurance and patient safety. The second generic section covers monitoring, including hemodynamic and neurological monitoring, followed by a section on procedures such as bronchoscopy and ultrasound. The following sections cover body systems, infectious diseases, surgery and trauma, emergency medicine, toxicology, and unique patient populations. The final section covers emerging therapies, specifically addressing sepsis. Although the target audience for this book is physicians, Critical Care Secrets also would be useful for advanced practice nurses and bedside clinicians who seek to understand the concepts behind the therapies they prescribe for their patients.
